In a recent dialogue,I nave been in the situation to express my opinion about homosexuality. Although I do not have any friend or acqaintance in order to speak about it from personal, direct observation, I can express my attitude about it, generally.
History has proved that homosexuality existed along its evolution through years, since the oldest times. For example, Greek, Japanese, European, Mohammedan societies dealt with this issue, the love of man for another men not being something never heard of. However, society, because of the rules imposed by church, by”morals”, rejected and accused such a love relation and admitted only heterosexual relations. Therefore, homosexuals had to live an isolated life, in obscurity; they had to hide their real sexual, emotional inclination and therefore their social life but also their happiness depended on the others attitude.
Nowadays, homosexuality is no longer a taboo, even if it was considered as relation “against nature”, more and more people realize that we are not all alike and that we must not judge the other just for being different. Our education made us accept the fact that love is unexplainable and that sexual attraction is possible to appear not only between man and woman but also between two women or between two men, as the Greek philosopher Plato explained it through Androgyny. Famous names as Alexander the Great, Michelangelo, Shakespeare or Freddy Mercury, George Michael demonstrated that homosexuality doesn’t influence the value of a person, his intelligence or his talents.
It might be hard for a family to accept the fact that one of them is different but it shouldn’t be. The person is the same, the person is no different from the other human beings, only the sexual orientation is different; but it is a fact that counts only for his intimate life. People should not judge the other just because of preconceived ideas.
Anyway, everything that gets out of what people know as normal will always attract criticism, dissaproval and never-ending discussions.
